WIP Wednesday

All morning I thought today was Tuesday.  I can't believe that Wednesday is already here.  I have been super busy this week and not much sewing is taking place.  I did visit with my mom and dad on Saturday and get a few more quilt ready to go to the long arm.  I am making it a goal to learn more and improve my free motion quilting skills but I like BIG quilts and my machine has such a tiny throat it's really hard to quilt anything large on it.  I have a hard enough time with small items pulling because of their weight.  I can only imagine a BIG quilt.  But maybe I'll get there someday.

A lot of my time is being taken up right now by my prep for the trip to Bolivia.  Between getting vaccinations and trying to make sure I have the proper clothes its starting to feel a little overwhelming but I'm super excited about going.  Bertha is going to the sewing machine spa while I'm on this trip so hopefully we will both be refreshed when I get back and ready to make some great things.

I did manage to sew up block number 11 for my APQ Quilt Along Quilt.  This makes me just over half way done.  Seeing so many of the finished quilts popping up online has me itching to get mine finished as well.

I guess that is really it for me today.  Head over to Lee's to see what everyone else is up too.

WIP Wednesday

I missed last weeks WIP Wednesday because I was in Washington DC for a conference for work.  I don't get to travel a lot for work which seems a little strange since I work for an international charity but I always appreciate the opportunity.  As luck would have it I am going to get to go on my first medical mission with my organization one month from today in Santa Cruz Bolivia and I couldn't be more excited.

As for sewing, I managed to finish my swap package for Sew Sew Modern 4.  I made this little dwell table runner based on the pattern from Camille's second book.  I had picked up a large scrap of Happy Go Lucky in the great fabric destash and it ended up fitting perfectly on the back.  Of course now I need to get some more of that fabric because it's such a great print but I love how it worked out.

I'm still working on my free motion quilting skills and they do leave much to be desired but I think this actually turned out okay.  Fun little fact I actually put a little heart in my FMQ.  I did this on my the table topper I made my sister in law for Christmas as well.  It's just a fun little touch and something that probably goes unnoticed but I like to think when they finally see it they will know that the piece was made with love.

I also managed to finish piecing my Lucy's Crab Shack quilt top.  I can't wait to get this one to the quilter and get it back.  Hopefully I'll get that done before the summer and can have it for lots of picnics.  Not that I go on many picnic but I just might start if I had a fun summer quilt like this to take with me.

That's it for me this week-be sure to head over to Lee's and see what everyone else is up to.

WIP Wednesday

How do Wednesday's always seem to sneak up on me?  It's not like I don't know it's going to be here the same time every week and yet every week I find myself surprised at how quickly it arrives.  With all of the snow days we have had in the last two weeks I've actually been able to do a good amount of sewing.  The only bad part is that the snow has mail delayed so I have started a lot of projects but I haven't been able to finish very many.

I worked on this little table runner for my partner in the Sew Sew Modern Swap.  The pattern is a modified version based on Dwell in Camille's second book.  My partner loves Bonnie and Camille almost as much as I do so I thought this was fitting.  I still need to finish it up and get it in the mail as the deadline is quickly approaching.

I also worked on sewing my jelly roll of Lucy's Crab Shack together.  I had been holding out on this project because I knew I needed two jelly rolls to make the quilt I wanted to do and I had been having a really hard time finding a second one in this line.  Luckily I was able to pick one up over at the great fabric destash.

Since I gave away my Central Rails quilt I had been wanting to replace it.  This was the perfect summery fabric to do that with.  I have just started sewing together my second jelly roll into the other half of these blocks.  Hopefully this will be a finished quilt top soon.

I also managed to score a Whimsy by Fig Tree layer cake in the great fabric destash.  Since I am taking Camille's second class on Craftsy I wanted to make her Piece of Cake 2 pattern that is part of the class.  These blocks are all done I just need to decide on a solid and get that ordered.  I don't have a Bella or Kona Color Card so it makes ordering solids a little hard.  I really should get one of those.  But I'm looking forward to having this one finished up into a quilt top soon as well.

That's it for me.  Head over to Lee's and see what everyone else is up to this week.  And let's hope for some more snow, it helps make me productive.  Just not next week while I am at my convention in DC.
