Finish it up Friday (Posh Enigma)

Is it still Friday?  I was just about to run out of light to take pictures today as I finished sewing the last stitches of hand binding on my Posh Enigma quilt.  I still can't believe I started this quilt over 4 years ago.  I knew it wasn't my style any more after leaving it sitting in my closet unfinished for so long.  When I first bought the fabric to make the backing for this quilt I didn't get enough.  So it sat and sat then one day I had it out of the closet and just happen to see a piece of leftover Bliss from the back of a baby quilt I had made and I knew it would work perfect on the back of this quilt.  So I pieced the back and took it to the quilter.

It's finished now and thanks to the help of some readers during WIP Wednesday I have some choices now of ways to send it to benefit those impacted by the explosion in West, TX.  So I feel great having another finish under my belt and even better knowing that this quilt that I no longer love won't languish unused for much longer and hopefully will find its way to someone who will love it for a long time.  And hopefully they will know every time they see it that there are people out there thinking about them and praying for them in their time of need and long after.

WIP Wednesday

Did you know it's already Wednesday again.  I can't believe how fast the week is going by but I guess that is a good thing when you are counting down the days to the weekend.  I haven't been doing a whole lot of sewing this week.  But I am making some slow and steady progress.  If you are following along you know I have finished up 6 out of 9 Swoon blocks.  Which is super exciting.

That of course also means more Ruby making it's way into my Complications quilt.  I've started piecing together the next larger section of complications.  You can see in this graph the parts that are done.  The pink section is the larger part i have all sewn together.  The purple section is what I have sewn together in this second large section so far.  I need to make a few more blocks before I can really go any further.  Of course I have been doing some juggling and rearranging to be able to connect the sections but so far I am still happy with the results.

I didn't get a chance to show you this block last week but I stitched this up for our guild meeting on Saturday.  Each member of the guild can select a month and during their month the bring instructions and fabrics for a block.  Much like a bee and then the next month they get back a slew of blocks.  This is the first time I have participated.  I didn't grab a block at the meeting Saturday because all of the packets were gone so quickly.  But it's a fun little way to sew something different from my projects.

The last thing I am working on this week is sewing binding to my Posh Enigma quilt.  I'm still not sure what I am going to do with this one when it's done but I am leaning towards donating it if my mom doesn't want it.  I offered it to her first but she turned me down.  I'll give her another shot but if she still says no then I'll be looking for a good group to send it to.  Does anyone know of someone collecting quilts for West, TX?  I am working on flags and blocks for Boston but I haven't heard much about West.  But if I know quilters I am sure there is someone organizing hugs for those effected by the explosion down there.

That's it for me this week.  Be sure to head over to Lee's to see what everyone else is up to.

WIP Wednesday

So last week I went through my sewing room and made a really BIG list.  I'm not sure if this is a sewing rut or just a lack of inspiration.  A lot of people said just pick something and go for it.  I wish my brain worked like that and that I could force myself just to sew something, anything.  I did make some progress just not as much as I would have liked.  I've been sidelined with a migraine that just won't quit.  It eases up but then it seems to come back with force.  Any one who gets migraines knows how bad that they can be.  Any suggestions on what works for you would be welcome because so far I haven't found that magical combination that can knock mine out.

But back to sewing news.  I did manage to drop off two quilts to the long arm.  One is the baby quilt I have been working on for my Aunt.  I am super excited to see this one when it is done because we picked the cutest owl and flower quilt pattern for it is sweet pink thread.  It should be finished soon so hopefully I will have pictures to show soon.

I also dropped off Posh Enigma.  The quilt was named this for the fabric and pattern that I used to make it and it just kind of stuck.  I started that quilt way back in 2009 when I first took up quilting.  The top has been done since then and just needed a backing.  I had picked up backing in 2009 in one of the prints that is also used in the quilt top.  Fairy something, but it wasn't wide enough and it was just barely long enough.  That was before I knew it was okay to piece quilt backs so when I realized it wouldn't work I put the quilt top away in a closet.  I pulled it out to try to finish it and by chance I had a piece of Bliss laying out in my sewing space.  Honestly I'm not sure why the Bliss was out because it was just something I had left over from making My Cup Runneth Over.  The tone on tone pink print seemed like just the ticket though so I sewed a strip down the side and wah lah a quilt back was done.

This quilt isn't my taste anymore so I am not sure what I will do with it when I am done.  My mom mentioned that she liked it and I told her she could have it but she turned me down.  I think she was just being nice because it isn't her taste either-it isn't yellow.  Perhaps I will donate this one, after all you can't keep all the quilts you make, right?

Be sure to head over to Lee's to see what everyone else is up to.
